OUR APPROACH:

Our Physiotherapists use clinical assessment skills to help determine the origin of the symptoms that may cause an individual pain and suffering.  Working together with other members of the medical community, we use a variety of treatment techniques with the goal of relieving the symptoms and resolving the cause of the symptoms.  These treatments may include a combination of osteopathic manual therapy, orthopaedic manual therapy, acupuncture, exercise prescription and physiotherapy devices.  The number of treatments will vary depending on the specific condition and its degree of severity.

We strive to provide our clients with professional service and quality care that will specifically address the underlying causes of symptoms and fully restore function in their daily lives.

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a recognized health care discipline that specializes in the assessment, treatment and maintenance of the human body's movement and function.

Physiotherapists integrate the use of many therapeutic devices with their expertise in exercise and movement rehabilitation to create the optimal plan to meet your therapeutic goals. Hawkesbury Therapy specializes in providing physiotherapeutic interventions and exercise programs to people of all ages presenting with any type of orthopedic condition - which are those conditions related to bone, muscle and joint problems.

A type of health care, physiotherapy concerns itself with providing physical healing methods for many different kinds of injuries and illnesses. Some of these techniques are done in a hands-on manner, by using massage or manipulation of the musculo-skeletal system. Knowing what is physiotherapy is crucial to getting this kind of help.

Education is a part of physiotherapy. A physiotherapist will teach a patient how to care for their injuries. He/She will teach exercises to do at home so that therapy can continue beyond the walls of the clinic or hospital. He/She will teach ways to overcome difficulties that cannot be cured.

Another part of physiotherapy is rehabilitation. Patients can have injuries from sports, car accidents, or assault. These injuries can be treated through physiotherapy. Given the right treatments and an injury that will respond to treatment, much progress can be made. Full functioning may be regained. It may even be possible for patients to go back to work rather than being laid up at home.

An answer to what is physiotherapy is Physiotherapists use various treatments. Heat, ice, and ultrasound are used to relieve pain and stiffness. Massage, chiropractic, and other hands-on methods are important. All these methods tend to promote better health, both physical and psychological.

About Physiotherapy Fees

As of April 2005 the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) no longer offers funding for physiotherapy visits. Most extended health plans cover physiotherapy and massage therapy treatments.

A doctor's referral is not necessary to receive physiotherapy treatment; however, your extended health insurance company may require one to process your claim.

If you have injuries stemming from a motor vehicle accident, your treatment should be covered by your automobile insurance or by SAAQ if you reside in Quebec.

We accept WSIB and CSST claims for injuries occurring at work.

If you have any specific questions about our rates or your physiotherapy coverage, please do not hesitate to call us or send a fax or e-mail.

Our fees: 55$ per session, payable in cash, cheque, Interac, Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary health care system that blends modern scientific knowledge with traditional natural forms of medicine. Naturopathic medicine is the art and science of disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention using natural therapies including botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, homeopathy, acupuncture and lifestyle counseling. The primary goal in Naturopathic medicine is to discover and treat the root causes of disease, rather than just simply treat the symptoms. A Naturopathic doctor treats the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of health with natural therapies to support and stimulate the body’s innate healing ability. Naturopathic doctors complement and enhance health care services provided by other health care professionals and refer patients to other practitioners when appropriate.
